Key Changes to Employment Act (with effect from 1 April 2019)

  • Managers & Executive (M&Es) earning above $4,500 will be now entitled to the following:
    • Minimum 7-14 annual leave
    • Paid public holidays and sick leave
    • Timely payment of salary
    • Protection against wrongful dismissal
  • Non-Workman coverage increased to $2,600 (previously was $2,500)
    • Cap for hourly rate is now $2,600 (previously was $2,250)
  • Wrongful dismissal claims and salary related claims will be heard at the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management (TADM) and/or Employment claims Tribunal. M&Es can seek help if they have served their employer for at least six months.
  •  Requirement for all employers to recognise medical certificates from ALL doctors, instead of only Government & company appointed doctors.
    • Quarantine orders are required by law
    • Hospitalisation leave is to cover hospital care and period of recuperation after being discharged
