Established in 1976, Red House Seafood specialises in Asian seafood dishes and Singaporean favourites. Known for serving up quality seafood, it has attracted a huge following that includes locals, expatriates and tourists alike. Originally starting out as a single restaurant on Upper East Coast Road, Red House Seafood now operates two more branches at Robertson Quay and Prinsep Street.



As the restaurant had to manually enter salaries, leave information and CPF contributions of more than 80 employees into its payroll processing system, running payroll was a time-consuming process. It also faced a significant challenge in ensuring compliance with manpower legislation as these policies were regularly updated. This meant that employees in charge of payroll had to be properly trained in payroll processes and updated regularly on changes in manpower laws. However, this presented another problem – the constant retraining of new payroll staff whenever existing employees left the company. On top of that, some payroll information, such as directors’ salaries, was particularly sensitive and privy only to certain staff members. Faced with these challenges, Director Chang Yee Ling decided that it would be more efficient to outsource the company’s payroll.



After outsourcing its payroll functions to PayrollServe, Red House Seafood realised several immediate benefits. With no need for manual entry of information, monthly payroll processing is now simply a matter of verifying the reports generated by PayrollServe, allowing Yee Ling to focus more on the restaurant’s core business. “Before outsourcing our payroll, I used to oversee the entire process myself, taking one full working day to complete it,” she said. “Now, it only takes me an hour and a half at most.” Red House Seafood also reduced its cost of materials and improved its productivity as there was no longer a need to print out physical copies of employee payslips.
